8 Ideas To Help Your Family Stay Healthy During the Winter Months

Updated: Jan 25

Plan ahead to keep your family feeling good during the cold and flu season! I always make sure that I have extra vitamins, hand sanitizer, essential oils, elderberry syrup, and tissues on hand for when we come in contact with those nasty germs!

Stock your freezer with homemade soup! Soup tastes great when you're sick, but you won't feel like cooking it when you don't feel well. Have it already made so you can just heat it up.

  1. Wash your hands or use hand sanitizer as soon as you come home so you don't bring the germs into your house. I keep hand sanitizer in my purse and my car. (I use the natural ones that don't have all the chemicals)

  2. Eat healthy foods and take your vitamins to keep your body healthy.  Your body needs good nutrients to help fight germs. Elderberry syrup is known as a powerful cold preventative and coconut oil can help boost immunity!

  3. Wipe down doorknobs, light switches, handrails and bathrooms to keep germs from spreading thru out the family.

  4. Run your diffuser with your favorite immune boosting essential oil.

  5. Make sure you get enough sleep. You should make sure you get at least 8 hours especially if you are exposed to something.

  6. Stay Active! This is so important in the winter months and if you are like me, it is the most challenging time to do so.

    • Some ideas are to go to the park to hike in the snow, snowshoe or cross-county ski.

    • Mall walk or find an indoor track to walk on.

    • Join a gym, take a class or do on-line exercises. My favorite on-line workouts are the walking exercises with Leslie Sansone. I'm not coordinated so these are easy to follow!

  7. Keep your stress levels low. When your body is stressed, it is more likely to catch whatever you've been exposed to. Guided imagery, yoga, BEMER, or simply taking a walk in the park are great stress relievers.

  8. Keep your freezer stocked with soup in the winter. Who doesn't like a warm bowl of soup when you are feeling under the weather. I make homemade chicken soup and freeze it without the noodles or rice. Then when we want a bowl, we just defrost it and add either fresh noodles or rice.
